Going Places
Maria’s mother had been praying for her to have a better, healthier life.
She was born prematurely seven years ago and has spina bifida. At three months of age, Maria was diagnosed with retinopathy of prematurity, an eye condition that could result in blindness. Then, a widespread infection further aggravated her health when she was nearly six months old.
Despite the physical challenges, Maria has a sharp mind and good comprehension. She attends a special school in Peru where she receives professional help for her condition.
Maria must wear orthopedic shoes, but she does not walk very much due to problems with her spine. Because of the challenges involved in transporting her from one place to another, Maria’s mother rarely took her anywhere.
She did however, pray persistently that God would give her daughter a wheelchair.
Her prayers were answered when she learned that Camino de Vida church, our partner in Peru, was distributing free wheelchairs. They fitted Maria with a GEN_2 wheelchair, giving her a new level of mobility and freedom that not only allowed her to get to and from school more easily, it enabled them to go to places they had never been to before.
Maria’s mother expressed deep gratitude to Camino de Vida church and Free Wheelchair Mission for reaching out to places that are sometimes overlooked.
Not only were her prayers answered that day, but so were yours.
