Wheelchair Mission’s Founder nominated for
Readers Digest “2005
Hero of the Year”!
Costa Mesa, CA [December 14, 2005]—Reader’s Digest has
recently announced Free Wheelchair Mission’s President and
Founder Don Schoendorfer as a nominee for the 2005 Hero of the Year
honors, which will be awarded on March 9th.

Schoendorfer was featured in the “Everyday Heroes” section
of the July issue of Reader’s Digest, and the article is a major
reason that the funding for the organization has more than doubled
from just a year ago, a remarkable achievement from an organization
that is only four years old.
“I am truly humbled by this generous honor and extremely grateful
for all the donations we received through the article,” stated
Schoendorfer, “It is imperative for us to be seen and heard in
the mainstream media in order to reach our hefty goal of 20 million
wheelchairs by 2010.”
Free Wheelchair Mission’s
impact was highlighted in the international film, “Emmanuel’s
Gift,” a popular documentary about
increasing awareness and mobility for disabled people around the
world. The “champion” in the film, and spokesperson for
FWM, Emmanuel, received the ESPY Arthur Ashe Courage award presented
by Oprah Winfrey on ESPN in August and appeared on the “Oprah
Show” in
September.
The Reader’s Digest 2005 Hero of the Year award will be announced
on March 9, 2006 and in the April 2006 issue of Reader's Digest.
The winner will be honored by being invited to ring the closing bell
at the New York Stock Exchange.
