This story comes from Ines who just returned from a wheelchair mission
trip to Peru: "As her 98 year old mother and her immediate neighbors watch, Pastor Robert graciously assists Juana Francisca of Cusco, Peru to sit on her new wheelchair. She has great reasons to be emotional. She has sat at the very spot her mother is now sitting for over 50 years. Time passed as she watched the children play and the adults come and go about their business. Juana was just a year old when rheumatoid arthritis began the gruesome damage to her joints and left her disabled for the rest of her life. Of her six brothers, only one stays home to help Juana and her mother. He carries every morning from her bed and sits her just outside her door where she stays until he returns from work to put her back in bed. Juana's mother and brother walk to a nearby church every Sunday where for years now they prayed for a miracle to help Juana improve her quality of life. Juana had to stay home, as no one could carry her that distance. Her brother is convinced that God has answered his prayers. Now Juana is planning to go shopping and is looking forward to a stroll around the neighborhood to get fresh air and enjoy the view. She now will go to church with her family. The entire neighborhood rejoiced with our team as we shared tears of joy for Juana that day." This is one of the many beautiful stories collected by the team that has just arrived from Peru. Almost 100 wheelchairs were delivered during their 7 day stay. Pastor Robert and his Camino De Vida Church have assisted in delivering over 2,500 wheelchairs to Peruvians this year. He has committed to his community to deliver 10,000 before the year is over. Our team was touched by the dedication of Pastor Robert and his team and by the enormous need for more wheelchairs in this impoverished country. |
