Greetings and Happy Friday!

July 16, 2004

Our Rotary friends of Rotary District 5240 raised the funds to send these wheelchairs to Rotary District 3210 in Kerala, India.

The simple banner tells a great story, and the appreciation is always welcomed. But the greater story is to gaze into the forty foot long container. See the stacked seats. See the cartons with all the accompanying parts. These components will soon be assembled into functional, rugged wheelchairs. The container holds 550 wheelchair kits.

When mobility has been an impossible dream, the reality of the delivery truck and its contents must be breathtaking. Imagine for a moment of what it must be like to be disabled and live on the ground in Kerala, India, and see this truck being unloaded. As you see this happening, your hopes grow. You begin to recall your forgotten dreams of participating in normal life activities. No longer will you have to wait to be carried or drag yourself through the dirt.

In our American culture we often think of
ROI for "return on investment." Here you see a sterling example of ROD for "return on donation". What better ROD can there be? $41.17 gives relief from hopelessness, restores mobility and dignity, and provides a chance for a better life.

As you face your challenges this Friday, I hope that from time to time you will think of the 550 poorest of the poor individuals in Kerala whose lives today were changed - forever.

God bless,

Don
