This story comes from John Connelly,
World Relief's Director of Sierra Leone. "Jaata James loved to climb trees as a young boy. Higher and higher he would be challenged to go by friends and his own desire to excel. Until it all came crashing down. Jaata's ankle suffered a compound fracture. The serious accident was further complicated by infection and before long, doctors informed Jaata's mother of the need to amputate his leg or risk death. Since that time, Jaata has been using crutches and his one good leg to convey him from location to location. "Jaata is a hard working individual who has never complained or been bitter in spite of his loss of mobility. He actually plants more grain than most other young men in the village, just because of his sheer pride and wanting to rely only on himself to make a living. "In my country these wheelchairs provide a simple, yet solid solution for the disabled or elderly who face mobility problems. It's a joy to see the smiles light up these faces as the recipients realize that someone, somewhere cares enough to assist them in Jesus' name. It makes a positive impact for the church in this largely Muslim-dominated region." God bless, Don |
