Greetings and Happy Friday!May 8, 2004 |
| Greetings! Here
is a Mother's Day story for you!
Thirty-two years ago in South Kerala, India, Janet was born with birth defects. She is unable to walk. Janet’s parents love her very much and wanted her to have every advantage in the world. They carried her everywhere when she was a child. They prayed that the doctors were wrong and that their little girl might some day grow out of her birth defects. She never did, so when she became old enough to go to school her mother would carry her the mile and half to and from school each day. As Janet grew older she became heavier. One day when Janet was about ten years old her mother stumbled on some uneven pavement. In order to protect Janet her mother used herself as a cushion to break the fall. Janet wasn’t hurt - but her mother had broken a hip. The roles of mother and daughter reversed as Janet now slid across the floor to bring her mother food, drink and medicine while she recuperated. Janet’s father continued working to pay for the medical bills on top of the normal struggle just to provide a home and food for his family. Sadly, Janet would no longer attend school. Days turned to years and Janet remained homebound with her parents. Though the family is full of love, the parents often felt guilty about not being able to help Janet have a fuller life. Late last year Janet received one of our wheelchairs. She wasted little time by resuming her education and life outside immediately. Janet is now taking vocational training to become a seamstress. Her mother shares the same dream as all mothers and is optimistic that Janet will attract a husband soon. Janet blushed when her mother reported that there were several interested potential husbands. A happy family smiles in part because of a new start and the love of a mother. Happy Mothers Day and God Bless.
