Greetings and Happy New Year!January 9, 2004 |
This past week we were visited by Aziz Aslami from Helping Hands Educational and Vocational Center in Kabul. Aziz is distributing 1100 of our wheelchairs in Afghanistan. Aziz was born in Afghanistan. He came to the USA for college, and after graduation, he returned. Forty-five days later the communists took over, so he came back to the USA. He became a very successful city planner. Over 20 years passed. On September 11, 2001 God hit him with a passion to return to Afghanistan. A six week trip turned into 6 months, and at its end, he decided to dedicate his life to help rebuild Afghanistan. He sold his US possessions and moved to Kabul permanently. I asked him why, and this is what he said: "America is such a beautiful country. It has given me so much. I love America. I also love the Afghanistan people. For decades they have been taken advantage of by foreign governments and religious sects. I fear that if we do not help then, what happened to them may happen here in the USA. I am willing to give my life to prevent that." 1100 wheelchairs is our modest beginning to help enable Aziz to spread his love and prevent his fear from ever materializing. God bless, Don |
