| Bob Thompson is accustomed to running among the bright lights of Las Vegas, Nevada, but come February, he will be hoofing it over to Huntington Beach to race in the Pacific Shoreline Marathon and raise money for Free Wheelchair Mission. Dr. Bob has teamed up with Janet Lute-Swenson and the two have set a powerful goal: to lift up 25 people into a clean and sturdy wheelchair.
An educational psychologist and consultant to a performance improvement company called AchieveGlobal, Dr. Bob ran in the Disneyland Half-Marathon in September. “That’s where I discovered Free Wheelchair Mission,” he said. After meeting the FWM representative at the expo booth, Dr. Bob learned not only about the suffering caused by lack of mobility among the disabled impoverished, but also about how little it can cost to change a life.
“$44.40? It’s unbelievable!” Bob said. “I was hooked, right from the start. Now I can’t help but think every time I buy something, ‘hmmmmm…now how many wheelchairs would that same money have bought?’”
He added, “I’ve been blessed all my life with good health. Especially being a runner, it’s hard for me to imagine how devastating it would be not to have personal mobility.”
“Free Wheelchair Mission has given me an opportunity to give back.”
