Stuck in his wheelchair?
Think again! |
Doctor William Tan races marathons in a wheelchair. He has had a lifetime of overcoming his own obstacles, starting with paralysis from polio at age 2, to achieve amazing triumphs for himself and to change the lives of others. He's coming to the Pacific Shoreline Marathon from Singapore on February 4th 2007. Dr. Tan holds a PhD in neuroscience, has worked at the Mayo Clinic, and has earned two post-doctoral degrees from Harvard University and Oxford University. In between marathons and other Olympic efforts to raise funds and awareness for children’s hospitals all over the world, he completed his medical degree at Newcastle in Australia. He attempted Marathon Races in 7 continents in 2005 and accomplish 10 marathons in 7 continents in 65 days. This time round he has included the North Pole and is hoping to accomplish all the 7 continents and the North Pole in a shorter period of time. |

The Pacific Shoreline Marathon appeals to him since the cause it supports is very close to his heart. He heard about the Run for Mobility and was impassioned to come to Southern California and give his support. He’ll be doing the Marathon on Super Bowl Sunday in Huntington Beach with all of us, adding exposure for FWM and helping to raise funds for more wheelchairs. He will also be at our dinner Saturday night where we’ll have a chance to see him and thank him for what he does.
